Akira Takemoto 竹本晃

Sound and background music (anime); music for the game, including the music-box theme

Takemoto worked with Kasamatsu as the show's second sound unit. Ueda explained at Otakon 2000 that TV sound is normally built from a palette made before the series and reused, but that Takemoto, a friend, came to the director's room and reworked sound for each episode, which is why the hum of wires and city noise feel so specific. He appeared at the 1999 talk live as sound staff, and his in-show score was finally released in 1999 on the BOOTLEG set. For the game, Ueda asked him for the music-box theme; his first version with existing samples sounded thin, so Ueda had real music boxes built by a maker in Nagano and sampled them. 4Gamer notes that Takemoto earlier composed game music at Data East under the name RAIKA.
