Junji Nakahara 中原順志

Director of the PlayStation game; COS and CG work and subtitle programming on the anime

Nakahara directed the Noel games and the Lain game, and on the anime he is credited for creating COS and doing CG and subtitle programming. Konaka's HK interview names him as one of the four core members. Konaka recalls that Nakahara first conceived a standalone console that behaves as if it were online, which raised the question of what a network is. Ueda describes him as someone who always aimed for the very best, a reader of science fiction and interface theory for whom interface was a kind of philosophy, and also as maddening: he switched the game's persona to a full-body figure less than six months before mastering and refused to show players a map of the database. He was so taken with Nakamura that game work slowed while he did anime CG, and he and Ueda filmed the Layer 12 ghost with a blanket. In 2010 he upconverted the opening and ending for the Blu-ray from his own backups. In 2018 the staff said they had lost touch with him.
