Taro タロウ (Tarō)
Taro is an eleven-year-old who hangs out at Cyberia with a bowl cut, custom gear and a gun-shaped NAVI. He is cocky, acts older than he is and knows a lot about NAVIs, so Lain goes to him to learn what the Psyche chip in her shoe locker is. He is a hanger-on of the Knights rather than a full member, and part of his interest in Lain is an assignment from them to pull her in. He is also a player-killer in the online game PhantomA. Japanese notes say he likes strong, rebellious girls and that he likes Lain but is afraid of the bolder 'Lain'. The gun grip on his handheld NAVI was ABe's idea, which ABe said in 2018 came from trying to make an odd-looking device. Keito Takimoto voices him.

When Taro visits Lain's room, the confident Lain sees through him and makes him confess his link to the Knights, threatening to rewrite his memory; afterwards he admits he was just a kid acting grown-up. Later he wears goggles to talk to Lain in the Wired and says he kissed an angel. After the reset he plays with Myu-Myu and Masayuki and does not recognize Lain.
